Ceramic components offer significant advantages over metal and plastic parts. They retain their full dimensional stability at high temperatures. They are extremely good electrical insulators. They do not outgas in vacuum. Ceramics are inert materials that resist to many gases and acids.
Applications
Macor® is a machineable glass ceramic. Like other ceramic materials, Macor® offers electrical insulation and dimensional stability together with a good thermal insulation. However the most interesting property of the Maco® is it machinability.
Several hours are needed to mill Alumina, whereas Macor® allows intricate shapes to be achieved by milling still with high precision. Thanks to this property Macor® is also suited for prototyping.
