Products : Heat sinks for laser systems

Ceramic components offer significant advantages over metal and polymeric parts in laser systems.
When adequately designed and machined they perform as excellent long-life and reliable heat sinks for passively-cooled high power laser diode modules.

Applications

Ceramic heat sinks - AlN and alumina - are ideal to be used as electrical insulators and dissipate heat generated by components in the following applications :

  • passively-cooled high-power laser diode stacks
  • diode lasers
  • semiconductor lasers
  • fibre lasers

Products

Mirocertec offer the following customised components :

Flat heat sinks

  • very thin flat substrates : 100 µm to 200 µm with thickness tolerance and flatness of 5 to 10 µm
  • flat substrates in standard thickness : 300 to 600 µm with thickness tolerance and flatness of 5 µm or better
  • flat substrates with grooves : 150 µm-wide minimum with a pitch tolerance of 5 µm
  • flat substrates with holes and thin wall thickness hole-to- edge : down to 200 µm

Customised heat sinks

  • machined heat sinks with peculiar shapes

Materials

For these heat sinks we mainly use the following advanced ceramics :

  • sintered aluminium nitride – AlN – due to its higher thermal dissipation but still offering perfect electrical insulation
  • alumina - aluminium oxyde - for applications where electrical insulation is solely required

Thin-film metallising

Thin-film metallised layers made under vacuum can be deposited on these ceramic heat sinks and electrical insulators in addition to our precision grinding.

Microcertec can offer the following thin-film metallised layers for your components to be bonded or brazed :

  • titanium - platinum – gold
  • chromium - nickel - gold
  • copper, aluminium, silver, or indium
  • resistive layers - Ta2N

These thin-film metallised layers can be uniquely made on 3D components. They can be ablated afterwards by laser micro-machining in order to create electrical paths or insulating areas.
